It is with much sadness that I report the passing of Tim Thornburg.  Early Tuesday morning, September 27th, he passed away in his sleep.  Just 6 days before that his doctor had reported that the chemotherapy had worked and he had no cancer cells in his system.  Unfortunately, he still had 7 more days to go after that before his white blood platelets would have been back up to normal and hence he was still in the danger zone when he died at Abington Hospital.  Tim touched every boy and adult in our troop with his kindness, sensitivity and hard work.  He took care of our dues, summer camp money, canoes, canoe trailers and canoe rentals as well as our first year scout program.  He was determined to beat this and be with us at Haliburton Scout Reserve in August.  It was just not meant to be.

I first met Tim when my son, a Webelos Scout, and I visited Washington D.C. with the Troop. After a full day we settled down around a campfire. Skits were performed, Matt Rose read a funny poem about his underwear, and Bob told a story about how faith helped resolve a crisis. I began to recognize that there was some magic at work in the Troop. I approached Tim at the cracker barrel and asked him what made the Troop special. He replied that Bob brought out the best in everyone. Tim had that same quality - bringing out the best in others. We all know that he brought out the best in new Scouts. They did their best because that's what Mr. T expected. Likewise, Tim set the example of a dedicated Scouter for other adults. We did our best to follow that example. And with his ready smile, Tim was always prepared to help us along the way.
